Dr. Everett Humble Givens

Dr. Everett Humble Givens (1888 -1962) was a celebrated dentist and avid civil rights activist. He fought for the African American community of East Austin for decades. He successfully advocated for the provision of basic utilities and improvements to streets, bus services, parks, pools, and playgrounds. Dr. Givens is buried in Oakwood Cemetery.
